Stories from Data (SFD) is a series of workshops aimed at connecting visual storytelling and data visualization. Participants vary in their expertise from history to engineering, but all share a common goal of facilitating new reasoning through visualization.
A key tenet of SFD is that decisions are made from stories about the data, not merely data itself.
With this in mind, SFD considers decisions to be things that are literally made: cultural, institutional, and perceptual biases combine with data, analysis, and visualization to create an opportunity to choose one path or another.
SFD draws from the work of Edward Tufte, Ben Fry, and others, but aims to articulate rich qualitative analytical and communication skills to the process of visualization, reasoning, and decision making.
